Celebration of award-winning community project
Ian Williams joined forces with Exeter City Council’s
environmental accreditation Green Accord to celebrate community
investment by local government service providers.
Together we sponsored the ‘best community & neighbourhood
initiative’ award at the APSE service awards 2011, which was handed
to Clackmannanshire Council for its ‘Imagine Alloa - One Year On’
project.
Imagine Alloa invested £2million to transform Alloa town centre
through streetscape improvements and public art. The involvement of
the community allowed the development of skills and jobs, while the
legacy of the improvements is a revitalised local economy, making a
name for Alloa as an arts destination.
One year on, not only have the perception of Alloa changed
significantly, culture and the arts are embedded in the heart of
the town. Small business start-ups, in a time of recession, have
increased by over 30 per cent.
More than 450 guests came together at Brunel’s Old Station in
Bristol for the APSE awards to celebrate the best in frontline
public services to communities throughout the UK.
Mike Turner, development director at Ian Williams attended the
award ceremony. He said: “We continue to support community
investment in the communities in which we work across the UK. It is
important that projects like Imagine Alloa receive the recognition
they deserve for the far reaching impact it has had.”
“The Green Accord was developed in collaboration with Ian
Williams, and other environmental experts, and we were
pleased to be promoting the benefits of the Green Accord at the
APSE Annual Seminar,” said Jo Pearce, of Green Accord.
Adopting the Green Accord allows businesses the opportunity
to engage with suppliers and add value to relationships,
working with them to lessen environmental impact. It's
an opportunity to increase business perception, not just with
staff and suppliers, but also customers, supporting your Corporate
Social Responsibility.
