  • Sporting donation gives judo hopefuls a fighting chance

Young Nottingham judo stars are kicking off April in style, thanks to a donation from a property maintenance firm.

Ian Williams, which has recently moved into new premises in the city as part of its growth plans, has handed over £500 to Portland Judo Club, a registered youth group.

The club, which has around 80 members aged four to 53, will use the money to pay for competition entry fees and transport to get young members to the events.

Ian Williams made the pledge as part of its ongoing commitment to the people of Nottingham.

The club is currently run by Jeff Elliott, a black belt who is a technical officer for Nottingham Community Housing Association, an affordable housing provider which manages some 7,000 properties across the region.

Jeff said: “We are delighted to receive this donation and would like to thanks Ian Williams for supporting us.

“Any input into the community that helps clubs like this keep going is an important part of the work organisations like ours do.

“We have worked with Ian Williams for about three years and continue to enjoy a strong relationship with them.”
