Volunteering is child’s play for staff at Ian
Williams
Youngsters from a playgroup for parents on a
low income can now play safely after a leading property services
company gave up free time, labour and materials to erect a fence
around the property.
Staff from Ian Williams, which employs around
200 people in the Birmingham area, spent Saturday morning building
and painting the 25 metre fence around All Stars Pre-School Group,
based in Lambeth Road, so the children, who are aged between two
and four, can play outside.

Carol Roney, who runs the playgroup on a
voluntary basis, said she is delighted by the help and support they
received from staff at Ian Williams.
She said: “All Stars is funded entirely by
donations and grants and this means that we find it difficult to
raise money for projects like this.
“We are very grateful to all of the staff at
Ian Williams and their family members who cheerfully gave up their
free time to help us out.”
Gary Courtnell, contracts manager at Ian
Williams, said: “When I heard that the playgroup needed a new fence
I asked around and people here were more than willing to go and
help out for a few hours.
“The playgroup already relies on volunteers to
keep it running and we wanted to do our bit to help out a playgroup
that provides such a great service for the community.
“Although it was a decent-sized job, we had
enough people here who were willing to help out. Our paint division
supplied the paint while the lads were happy to muck in and help
out.
“We have many clients in the Birmingham area
and projects such as this form part of our ongoing commitment to
supporting communities.”
