Adding educational value

Ian Williams is committed not only to delivering an excellent project but also strives to find ways in which additional learning can be provided whilst working at a school.

Adding value

The following are ways in which this can be achieved

  • Site visits for the children/students explaining how buildings are constructed
  • Inviting speakers from the organisation to talk about opportunities to work in the building services industry
  • Providing opportunities to participate in work experience
  • Development of ICT projects, aimed at giving pupils the opportunity to find out more - for example, Material
  • Technology (What is concrete and how is it made? The composites of paint, How the eye reacts to colours, spacial awareness etc.) This could also include laboratory work, on chemical composition, strength testing etc. Competitions and visits to local suppliers can also be arranged
  • How are projects planned and updated - the use of computers to manage projects
  • What are contracts and how do we manage the commercial aspects of schemes (this is relevant to Business Studies Courses)
  • Creating interior designs using colours and fabrics, to enable a greater understanding of the use of colour
  • Drawing pictures and poster competitions for younger children promoting safety
  • Sponsoring school trips
