Representatives from Vivid, Crown Paints and Ian Williams recently gathered on a blustery December morning in the park at Waggoners Walk in Aldershot, at the site of a recycled bench made by Crown Paints and donated by Ian Williams to benefit Vivid residents in this area.
Charlotte Keaveney, Lead Asset, Delivery Planned Works Supervisor at Vivid Housing explained why this donation was important and how it has improved people’s experience of the park: “The bench has turned our green area into a place to stop and enjoy, rather than just a walk-through. Now the space can be enjoyed, and people can take a seat whilst children play. It’s a spot to stop and rest and chat. It’s a small but important change and makes the place more sociable.”
Not only does the bench make the day-to-day experience of Vivid resident more pleasant but its composition from recycled paint by-products aligns with all three organisations’ net zero ambitions.
Katrina Bevan, Key Account Manager of Crown Paints explains: “This project obviously is a brilliant sign of our sustainability mission. In terms of our Can Back Recycling Scheme, which intertwines with our Project Possible scheme where we’ve managed to recycle over 200 tonnes of waste. And being able to donate a bench like this to local communities is great!”
Matthew Roche, Business Manager at Ian Williams, accompanied by Rhys Potter an Ian Williams apprentice working on the external and internal redecorations and repairs contract for Vivid, adds. “We’re here today in collaboration with Crown Paints and Vivid for more than just a recycled bench donation. The project forms part of a wider social value platform we’re delivering with Vivid. Next stop, painting a community centre in the same area in the New Year!”
