Carrie-Anne Martin’s role at Resident Liaison Officer at Ian Williams, has recently taken an unexpected but welcome shift into retrofitting thanks to her proactive approach and diverse career experiences that have driven her to seek new challenges.
Carrie-Anne tells us more: “My RLO role is very varied but predominantly, I’m usually the first point of contact for residents during planned refurbishment works. This means I also work alongside and support Contract Managers. I have always found helping people very fulfilling. It’s also given me a holistic understanding of the different roles within the organisation, and this is what has driven me to seek new challenges and growth opportunities, particularly in retrofit.
Venturing into Retrofitting
“Retrofitting homes is crucial for improving housing standards, especially for older residents. I have witnessed first-hand the benefits of moving from energy inefficient homes to newly renovated homes that meet retrofit standards and improve resident health and wellbeing. Before joining Ian Williams, I had some experience with PAS accreditation at a small company that handled installations. This background proved beneficial when I started at Ian Williams as we do a lot of decarbonisation works. I have since gained my Level 2 in Domestic Retrofit. I received great support from my Business Manager, Clinton, in upskilling on this path.
“I have also completed Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) and as well as ILM, a course on leadership and management which the company has really encouraged me to take part in to develop my skills and experience.
Leadership and Achievements
“The proactive culture at Ian Williams has been instrumental in my recent achievements. Clinton’s support to pursue retrofit training for in-house teams led to a collective effort within our team to expand our knowledge and capabilities.
Celebrating Success
“To exercise my new skills, I am excited to have been given the opportunity to support the management of a contract for storage heater replacements at a nursing home. It signifies my development and the supportive environment at Ian Williams
“I am so thankful for the support of my team, it has been invaluable. They are with me every step of the way.”
It’s exciting to see our people upskilling and we congratulate Carrie-Anne on all she has managed to accomplish, her story demonstrates our commitment to fostering talent and supporting career growth. Well done, Carrie-Anne!
