Congratulations to Ian Williams’ apprentice Zoe Evans for her triple win at the CITB Apprenticeship Awards 2019, most notably Apprentice of the Year, Great Britain

Ian Williams is delighted to announce that our apprentice Zoe Evans came away victorious with not one, but three awards at the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Apprenticeship Awards 2019. 21-year old painter and decorator Zoe, beat off the competition to win Regional Apprentice of the Year Wales West, Apprentice of the Year Wales, and exceptionally, Apprentice of the Year, Great Britain.

Celebrating the achievements of apprentices and employers across the UK for their commitment and dedication to construction skills, the awards are the highlight of the apprentice year. The winners were presented with their awards at a ceremony hosted by broadcaster and property entrepreneur, Sarah Beeny at Merchant Taylor’s Hall in London.

Zoe completed a level 2 apprenticeship in painting and decorating and went on to achieve her Advanced level 3 with the support of the award-winning Ian Williams’ Academy.

Describing her win as amazing, Zoe comments: “I’ve loved every single part of my apprentice journey, from the classroom learning to the practical application and the more creative aspects of the job. I want to thank my mentor, Ken MacKay and my employer Ian Williams Ltd. It’s a really good feeling to know that I’ve been recognised in this way. I’d definitely recommend an apprenticeship to anyone willing to work hard, have goals and go full out to achieve them.”

Jon Davies, CITB Apprenticeship Officer, said: “When Zoe started her apprenticeship we saw her potential so we fast tracked her from level 1 to level 2. It was important for me to make sure she had the right support to reach the heights she is capable of, and with the support of Ian Williams and The Academy team, she did just that. Zoe makes work a brighter place for everyone around her. Her positive attitude and ability makes her a perfect ambassador for women in construction, and I am really pleased this has been recognised with her award on this national platform.”

Kevin Mcloughlin, CITB board member said: “Congratulations to Zoe, a clearly dedicated apprentice – it’s great to recognise her hard work. Apprenticeships provide a fast track route into the construction industry. With so many rewarding career opportunities in construction there is something out there for everyone. I wish Zoe all the best in her future career.”

Jo Down, Ian Williams’ Academy Officer sums up: “I’m over the moon on behalf of the team, and of course, Zoe who has emphasised how much The Academy has supported her apprentice journey. What a fantastic endorsement of the hard work we carry out every day, helping to keep our 59 trade apprentices, 30 Trainee Surveyors and 4 staff apprentices on track to achieve their potential. Well done again Zoe. We’re so proud of you.”
