NAW 2020: Meet Hannah Patrick

Continuing our NAW 2020 stories, we spoke to Finance Apprentice, Hannah Patrick and asked her about her experience.

Tell us a bit about what you do?

I work as a Finance Apprentice in the General Ledger Team and I am currently working towards my level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship. My typical daily tasks include; making journal entries, fixed asset register updates, P&L analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.

What do you love about your job?

I love that I have such varied tasks to do and I am always busy. It is also great being part of a friendly supportive team.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

Maths was my favourite subject at School and I knew that I wanted a career in Accounting. I decided that an apprenticeship was the best route for me as I knew that I could get on-the-job experience whilst gaining a vocational qualification and being paid at the same time. I joined Ian Williams and started my apprenticeship after I completed my GCSEs at school, I was able to achieve my level 3 qualification within 18 months and I have now progressed on to level 4. I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone who knows what career they want to get into as it allows you to get experience and start progressing with your chosen career.

Where do you want your career to take you?

After I have completed my level 4 qualification I want to spend some time putting my skills in to practice, I am aiming to progress to a level 7 Accounting qualification and ultimately would like to use my accounting skills and knowledge to work in a management role within a Finance dept.

Keep an eye on our website as our apprenticeship vacancies go live on 9th March and trainee surveyor vacancies on 30th March 2020.
