Privileged to look after the homes of the past as well as the homes of the present

With decades of experience looking after, refurbishing and helping to protect listed, conservation and heritage buildings, Ian Williams, one of the UK’s leading privately-owned property services companies, has been continuing its partnership with its client, the National Trust.

Peter Hall, Ian Williams Surveyor comments: “Although we’re better known for the painting and decorating work we carry out in social housing, where we’re proud to improve lives for residents across the UK, we’re also privileged to work on landmark heritage buildings. Our teams of specialist tradespeople, including painters, decorators and carpenters take just as much pride in the homes of the past as the homes of the present.”

Through their close partnership with the National Trust, Ian Williams expertly preserved the heritage of Sherborne House, a Grade II listed building in Gloucestershire. The team meticulously repaired sash windows, stone masonry, and roofline elements, prioritising conservation over replacement to maintain the authentic character of this national treasure.

Thanks to effective planning, resource allocation, and proactive sourcing of heritage materials, Ian Williams completed comprehensive external decorations and repairs at Southwood House Farm in Leicestershire within the National Trust’s required 3-day timeframe. The work successfully preserved the heritage features while enhancing both the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the property.

“These projects are really exciting schemes and our teams’ dedication, integrity and application of technical skills is the foundation of our success wherever we’re working. It’s amazing to have the opportunity to maintain and renew the National Trust sites and homes which display such rich history, and require specialist experience and respect. We relish the opportunity to showcase how our teams work sensitively and with respect to help conserve these important buildings for years to come.”

A spokesperson from the National Trust commented “They have dealt with all the challenges that the use of heritage materials dictate, bringing to bear their extensive knowledge and understanding, especially in the use of products such lime-based renders and lime-washes.”
