Roof-Top Apprentices

As part of their ongoing training, our carpentry apprentices recently had the opportunity to build a roof from scratch with fantastic results.

Over two days the group, which included Will Holness (year 3), Elijah Ffrench (year 2), Mo Basson (year 1) and Oliver Hiskett (year 1), covered the erection of a cut roof and then learnt how to cut out a dormer and finish the gable end detail.

Carpentry foreperson, George Tzanaka is the driving force behind creating these sorts of opportunities for our apprentices to learn skills through hands on training. George comments: “The training went extremely well with the apprentices enjoying all aspects. They all came away with an increased level of skills, knowledge and confidence. Thank you also to Kevin Edwardson (Contract Manager) and Richard Croucher (Business Manager) for promoting the development of the apprentices with such a task.”

This is a great example of the commitment the whole business offers to the training and development of the young people training under the Ian Williams Academy apprenticeship scheme. For more information, visit: www.ianwilliams.co.uk/our-academy
