Success across the board at the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) Premier Trophy Awards

Ian Williams is delighted to return from this year’s Painting and Decorating Association’s Premier Trophy Awards Ceremony with a clutch of 5 awards, including the prestigious Decorative Category Winner. In addition, recognising its excellence in achieving the highest standards, its painting teams from across the UK were also awarded Highly Commended and Commended accolades across a range of other categories.

Mike Turner, Executive Director comments on the wins: “Now in its 31st year, the objective of the Premier Trophy Awards has always been to demonstrate the diversity of skill and craft, show efficiency of service to clients and develop the highest standards of excellence for the industry. That’s why we’re so pleased to have been recognised for so many projects that display a wide range of painting disciplines.

“Gaining top spot for the Decorative category was our highly skilled decoration work on Grand Lodge, Freemason’s Hall, Bristol. The project included internal decoration of two public rooms and a four-storey staircase which required scaffolding, but with limited access from the street, this proved a major challenge. The Judges commented: ‘The end result is an extremely clean looking project with a lot of care and skill shown in the finish, including the picking out of the ceiling and cornice areas in gold paint and incorporation of gold leaf into the stairwell. The job is well commended as it was completed in a tight timescale and the client was very happy with the outcome.’

“Moving from the Decorative to the Commercial awards our teams picked up two accolades: Very Highly Commended for our work on the Copthorne Hotel, Plymouth on behalf of Millennium Hotels, and Commended for the project we carried out at Tidworth Leisure Centre, Wiltshire on behalf of client Aspire Defence Services Ltd. Showing a mix of painting and decorating skills, coating and finishes expertise and a commitment to safe and efficient working within challenging environments, the Judges commented: ‘The works were carried out to a very high standard and showed excellent project management on work schedules. Due recognition to the onsite teams for the high quality of the finished work and the control of the contracts – well done’.

“Illustrating our ability to transfer our painting and decorating skills and project management across a diverse range of sectors, we were also delighted to pick up a Highly Commended in the Industrial Category for our works on the external concrete decoration of Opal Villas in Plymouth, during which the judges commented we’d shown ‘enthusiasm and passion against the challenges of the autumn and winter months’. And to cap off an excellent day, our team received Highly Commended in the Residential category for The Old Library, Warwickshire on behalf of Pennycuick Collins Chartered Surveyors, a grade 2 listed building converted into apartments which included hard to access feature bell towers.

“We are delighted that the skill and attention to detail of our professional painters and decorators has been recognised in such a professional way. We make a significant investment in training and retaining a directly-employed workforce and awards such as this show the difference that makes to the quality of the work we deliver every day for customers.”
