Technical training continues for Ian Williams carpentry apprentices

With colleges closed due to Covid, the Ian Williams apprentice mentors are working hard to support their learning by setting practical challenges. The first- and second-year carpentry apprentices in Maidstone recently completed a roof training exercise, and this week have extended their knowledge to understand the basics behind studwork and door hanging.

The project saw apprentices Oliver Hiskett, Mo Basson and Elijah Ffrench, under the supervision of Adam Barnett, construct a stud wall, incorporating a door lining, and then hanging a door and installing the ironmongery. They then finished the wall with plasterboard, architrave and skirting.

The group reported back that this was an immensely helpful exercise and have come away with a wealth of basic knowledge on first and second fix carpentry. We think they’ve done an amazing job!
